What cinnamon rolls are best for waffles?

We prefer to use a regular size tube of refrigerated cinnamon rolls (currently 12.4 ounces in Pillsbury brand). You can use Grands style, but we find they take longer to cook and don't end up as good as the smaller size.

Tips for Making Cinnamon Rolls in the Waffle Maker

  • Only spray the waffle iron with cooking spray if you do not have a non-stick surface. If you use cooking spray on non-stick surfaces your waffle maker will become gummy.
  • Preheat the waffle maker.
  • Press the cinnamon rolls flat between your palms before placing them on the waffle iron. Don't go crazy for this, just press them lightly between your two palms.
  • Place the waffles on a wire rack after they are done cooking so that they will not become soggy.

How long do I cook cinnamon roll waffles?

The exact timing will depend on the quality of your waffle maker and the size of the cinnamon rolls. There's one important thing: you don't want the cinnamon rolls to burn. Check them at 2 minutes and then continue to check often to make sure they cook fully but don't burn.

  • 12.4 ounces refrigerated cinnamon roll dough (1 tube of Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls)

Powdered Sugar Glaze:

  • 3 ounces cream cheese (at room temperature)
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter (at room temperature)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon maple extract
  • 2-4 tablespoons heavy cream

Make the waffles:

  • Spray a waffle iron with a butter spray. If you have a non-stick waffle maker you can skip the spray.

  • Heat the waffle iron.

  • Flatten the cinnamon rolls just slightly between the palms of your hands.

  • Place 1-4 cinnamon rolls on the waffle iron, depending on how large the waffle iron is. Our waffle iron has 4 large squares, so we do 4 cinnamon rolls a time.

  • Close the waffle iron and allow the cinnamon rolls to cook.

  • The exact timing will depend on the cinnamon roll size and waffle maker, but ours take about 2-3 minutes. The rolls should be soft, but not doughy.

  • Remove and place the waffles on a wire rack so that they will not become soggy.

  • Repeat with the remaining cinnamon rolls.

Make the glaze:

  • In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and butter using a hand mixer. Blend well.

  • Add in the maple extract and the powdered sugar. Beat until combined.

  • Add two tablespoons of heavy cream and mix. Add more heavy cream by the tablespoon until you get the consistency of glaze that you'd like.

  • Drizzle the glaze our frost the waffles with the glaze.

  • Serve immediately.
