How to cook quinoa with step by step pictures.I have given 2 methods for cooking quinoa 1. pressure cooker method 2.sauce pan method(steps will be updated soon).

Quinoa is pronounced as 'keenwah' a super healthy grain which has a crunchy chewy texture which  I love the most.Though Quinoa is referred to as a whole grain crop they are actually edible seeds. The seeds are in general cooked the same way as rice and can be used in a wide variety of dishes.

I have posted few quinoa recipes, you can check them out. I will post more quinoa recipes in the coming days too.If you have anything specific in mind then do let me know, will try and post it.I couldn't find quinoa here in stores so bought it online.

Prep Time 10 mins

Cook Time 10 mins

Total Time 20 mins

Servings 1

  • 1/4 cup quinoa
  • 1/2 cup water

For stove top method:

  • 1/2 cup quino
  • 1/4 tsp oil
  • 1 cup water

Pressure cooker method:

  • Rinse quinoa well then drain water and add it to pressure cooker.Add water.

  • Pressure cook for atleast 5-6 whistles in medium high flame.Allow the pressure to release by itself.

  • Then open and fluff it up.Spread it on a plate and let it cool down before you use it for other recipes. Can you see the small sprout like tail slightly peeping out, yes that shows the quinoa is cooked correctly.

Stove top method:

  • Measure and take quinoa in a bowl, rinse it well.Drain.

  • Add 1/2 tsp oil in a sauce pan, add drained quinoa and toast for a minute. Then add 1 cup water and start cooking.Simmer the flame and cook covered for 15-20 mins.

  • You will see a small tail coming out and quinoa should have absorbed all the water. After 20 mins switch off and set aside for 10 mins. Then open and fluff it up.

  • The ratio of quinoa:water is 1 :2 cups for pressure cooker method. I use the same ratio for sauce pan method too if soaked. If you dont do the soaking then you can add 2 and 1/2 cups of water and cook for some more time than the mentioned amount of time.
  • I have not used salt while cooking quinoa and add it while using for recipe.
